Sophomore guard Damon Escoffery has been dismissed from the Texas A&M basketball team for violating university eligibility rules, Aggies head coach Melvin Watkins said Monday.
"It's an unfortunate situation for Damon, but we wish him the best," Watkins said.
A 6-3 guard, Escoffery transferred to A&M this season from Monterey Peninsula (Calif.) College, where he was named 1998 Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Year. Escoffery attended Erasmus Hall High School in Brooklyn, N.Y., earning all-city honors as a senior in 1997.
The Aggies play their final exhibition game on Tuesday against the Global Sports Next-Level All-Stars at 7 p.m. at Reed Arena.
