Texas A&M head coach Melvin Watkins:
(on the play of the freshmen) "I see them every day in practice. I know this group. We played 15 minutes of good basketball and we will break the tape down and get better. We have some guys that want to win. When you have a bunch of young guys, you can't duck your head and pout. You've got to make things happen for you. Usually, where you make things happen is on the defensive end.
"We like defensive intensity. We get intensity in spurts, but we learn that we have to have intensity the whole game to win at this level.
(on Jerald Brown) "We need Jerald to score some for us. He had a good night. He needs to be steady and show leadership. Especially with our lack of experience. Each day is a learning experience for us."
Texas A&M forward Jerald Brown:
(on being ready to start the season) "We are definitely ready to get this thing going. We still have a lot to work on. Tonight, we got a late start. We played good defense the second half, and if we would played hard for forty minutes we would have won."
Texas A&M guard Andy Leatherman:
(on getting into a rhythm) "I just try to let the game come to me. It may not happen again, but it happened tonight."
