Mike Sherman, a former assistant coach at Texas A&M University, has been named the head coach of the Green Bay Packers today.

Sherman was part of Aggie Head Coach R.C. Slocum's first coaching staff back in 1989. Slocum hired Sherman from Holy Cross to coach the offensive line. Sherman stayed with Texas A&M from 1989-93 before leaving for one season (1994) to coach at UCLA. Sherman came back to Aggieland as the offensive line coach in 1995-96 and was named offensive coordinator in the spring of 1997. He left College Station later that spring to serve as an assistant coach with Mike Holmgren at Green Bay.

"Green Bay has made a great selection," Aggie Head Coach R.C. Slocum said. "Mike Sherman is a quality human being and very intelligent. He was one of the hardest working coaches I've ever had on my staff and I know he has continued that work ethic on the professional level. I'm very proud of Mike and I know he'll do well as the new head coach of the Green Bay Packers."

Slocum's first staff at Texas A&M has made quite a mark on the coaching ranks.
