Texas A&M Head Coach Melvin Watkins

"Offensively, their zone defense caused us a lot of problems. They had us standing around. Coach Dickey had them ready to play. I thought we came out ready to play, but the zone got us. We were not making good decisions against the zone. It is still a learning process, and games like this are disappointing. We have got to get better at the things we don't do well. The bottom line is we don't have enough pieces yet. We were hoping that our trap defense would wear them down in the second half. Ronald Hobbs stepped up and had a big game for them."

Texas A&M Guard Bernard King

"I think they came out ready to play us. We were not as fired up as they were. We realized that we were going to have to play if we wanted to win. At the beginning of the last three games, we have been starting out too slow. We have to play hard for 40 minutes. I thought we could pull it out at the end. We had some good looks it just wasn't meant to be."

Texas Tech Head Coach James Dickey

"I am really proud of the way our guys play today. I am proud of the manner in which we won. Basically, we played five guys in the second half. We went with a smaller line-up today. We got off to a nice start. Hobbs really responded well. He is really going to be a nice player. A&M played really hard. We did a good job handling the trap. There are two things that are hard to do in the Big 12-win with young players and rebuild. King is a terrific player. He has the ability to score inside, shoot, and play with confidence. I was really impressed in how he passed the ball."

Texas Tech Guard Rayford Young

"It was good to get a win. We had been on a long losing streak. A&M has a good team, but any win is good. They are the team of the future in the Big 12. We shot well from the line. We shoot free throws every night. Coach Dickey stresses it."
