The Texas A&M spring football practice will be moved to Monday, Mar. 20 as the students return from spring break. The Aggies were scheduled to begin on Monday, Mar. 6.
"The players are working hard in the off-season program and the extra time will allow me a chance to hire a secondary coach and have him in place for the start of spring drills," Aggie Head Coach R.C. Slocum said.
Defensive backs coach Ron Milus was hired by the Denver Broncos today.
"Ron is an excellent coach and a quality person," Slocum said. "I wish him and his family all the best."
"While it makes my job more difficult," Slocum explained. "I do think it speaks well that the NFL has such high regard for our staff. Mike Sherman, one of my former assistants, is now the head coach of the Green Bay Packers and I have had numerous other assistants leave A&M to coach at the professional level. I am always proud to see the men who work for me progress in their careers. It also makes me proud to know that our players have such quality coaching."
The new spring practice schedule for Texas A&M is as follows:
Mar. 20-22, 24-25
Mar. 27-28, 30-31
Apr. 3-6
Apr. 10-11
Practices are open to the public. Without stands at the practice fields, fans will have to stay within a certain area to assure their safety.
Scrimmages will be held throughout the spring without one major, Maroon & White contest.
