Texas A&M's Bernard King (Gibsland, La./Coleman HS) has been named third-team All-Big 12 by The Associated Press. King also was named Big 12 Rookie of the Week by the Big 12 Office on Monday, his second such honor this season.
King is the only freshman on the first, second or third team. Last week, King was named second-team All-District 9 (Texas) by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC).
A 6-3 guard, King is averaging 17.3 points, 4.7 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 1.6 steals. He set a Big 12 and Texas A&M freshman scoring record with 468 points this season and has tied the Big 12 freshman record for three-pointers with 79, which stands as an A&M school record.
King is the only freshman in the country to average at least 15.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game. On Saturday, he scored 30 points with 10 rebounds in an 83-76 win against Nebraska, becoming the first Big 12 freshman to post three 30-point scoring games. Earlier this season, he set the Big 12 single game freshman mark with a 34-point effort in an upset of Colorado.
