The Texas A&M football team conducted a scrimmage at Kyle Field on Saturday to close out the first week of spring drills.
"I thought it was a good way to end the first week of practices," Aggie Head Coach R.C. Slocum said. "It was pretty much what I expected. I saw some individuals do some good things, but we have a whole lot of work to get done. We'll get the tape and study it and then go about learning and trying to get better."
Several players were held out of the scrimmage due to injuries: running back Ja'Mar Toombs (hamstring); offensive lineman Michael Mahan (shoulder); linebacker Roylin Bradley (knee); linebacker Christian Rodriguez (knee); defensive lineman Stephen Young (neck); wide receiver Ellison Collins (hip pointer); tight end Michael de la Torre (back); wide receiver Roddy Alexander (sprained ankle); offensive lineman David Campise (hamstring).
Redshirt freshman running back Oschlor Flemming from Denton broke a 65-yard touchdown run to highlight the scrimmage. Defensive lineman Ronald Edwards caused a great deal of distruption in the offensive backfield most of the day.
The Aggies will return to the practice field on Monday with practice starting at 4:30 p.m. at the grass practice fields.
Texas A&M opens the 2000 season in South Bend, Indiana, against the University of Notre Dame on Sept. 2 in a game which will be televised nationally by NBC.
