The Texas A&M men's golf team is in first place following Monday's opening round of the Big 12 Championships at Prairie Dunes Country Club.

The 33rd-ranked Aggies carded an opening-round 4-over-par 284 to hold a one-shot lead over No. 36 Colorado (285). No. 17 Texas is third at 286, followed by No. 3 Oklahoma State (287) and No. 25 Kansas (287), Texas Tech (291), No. 26 Baylor (292), No. 37 Oklahoma (296), Kansas State (297), Missouri (297), Iowa State (304) and Nebraska (304).

Individually A&M is led by sophomore Sean Gilliland and freshman Dwayne Morley, as both fired an opening-round even-par 70. Gilliland (36-34=70) and Morley (34-36=70) are tied for second place with Colorado's Matt Call and Kansas' Casey Harbour, four shots behind first-round leader Charles Howell of Oklahoma State.

Sophomore Josh McCoy and freshman Matt Lindholm posted a first-round 72, while senior Ty Cox notched a 76.

The second round is underway this afternoon, and weather conditions are ideal and unseasonably warm. A third and final round will begin Tuesday morning.
