Cornelius Anthony, a senior linebacker for the Texas A&M football team, was selected and participated in the fourth annual NCAA Foundation Leadership Conference, which was held May 28-June 1, at Disney's Coronado Springs Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Florida.
Anthony, a three-year letterman from Elkins High School in Missouri City, has been the second-leading tackler on the Wrecking Crew the past two seasons. He was one of 352 student-athletes selected from a total of 885 nominations that represented all divisions in the NCAA as well as different sports, genders and ethnicities. Anthony has been active in the community through Aggie Athletes Involved and has been a member of the student-athlete advisory committee at Texas A&M. Student-athletes were nominated from NCAA member institutions that participate in the CHAMPS/Life Skills program.
"Cornelius is a great representative of Texas A&M University and very deserving of this recognition," Dr. John Thornton, Associate Athletic Director for Olympic Sports, said. Thornton heads up the Aggie Athletes Involved organization as well as the student-athlete advisory committee.
The mission of the NCAA Foundation Leadership Conference is to develop a diverse group of student-athletes who will actively participate in and experience a multitude of challenging and thought-provoking activities that will enable them to become change agents on their campuses and in their communities. It provides NCAA student-athletes with the opportunity to discuss and explore critical issues facing their peers; to enhance their leadership skills; and to promote better communication among student-athletes, coaches, administrators, faculty and communities.
Participants engaged in a variety of developmental exercises designed to enhance their communication, decision-making and problem-solving skills in addition to collaborative projects and critical thinking. Student-athletes developed their leadership skills through interactive, hands-on work in small groups.
