The Texas A&M football newcomers hit the practice field for the first time on Tuesday with a pair of workouts on the grass practice fields.

"This was a good start today, I was pleased with their athletic ability," Head Coach R.C. Slocum said. "We will have a day of academic orientation tomorrow and return to the practice field on Thursday."

Two walkons are among the group of 21 newcomers. Alton Burton, a 6-2, 283-pound defensive lineman from Bryan High School, and Michael Morrow, a 6-1, 193-pound wide receiver who played at Houston Worthing High School, participated in drills.

Eric Crutchfield, a 6-1, 185-pound player from North Shore High School, was listed as an athlete on signing day and he spent his first day working with the defensive backs.

Coach Slocum and the coaching staff will participate in the annual Brazos Valley Coach's Night Tuesday held at Reed Arena.
