Three members of the Texas A&M men's golf team have qualified for the 100th United States Amateur Golf Championship August 21-27 at Baltusrol Golf Club in Springfield, N.J.
Junior Clay Fullick and sophomores Matt Lindholm and Dwayne Morley are among 312 golfers to advance through local qualifying. The first two days of the tournament will be a stroke play format, with the top 64 finishers advancing to the match play portion of the championship.
Fullick won Tuesday's qualifier at Deerwood Country Club in Houston with a 36-hole score of 143, the second straight year he has qualified for the U.S. Amateur by winning the qualifier. Morley won Tuesday's qualifier at Pine Forest Country Club in Houston with a 36-hole total of 139. Lindholm made the field by tying for third place at the July 31 qualifier played at Pecan Valley Golf Club in San Antonio with a two-round score of 142. A&M junior Sean Gilliland earned a spot as an alternate after placing fifth at Tuesday's qualifier at Pine Forest.
"It's an outstanding accomplishment for Clay to make it to the U.S. Amateur for the second straight year and also for Matt and Dwayne to make it through as a couple of 19-year-olds," A&M assistant coach Dru Fenimore said. "It's rare for so many players from one school to make it through the qualifying process and it's a tribute to how hard our players have worked this summer."
The entire five-day match play portion of the 100th U.S. Amateur will be televised nationally. ESPN will televise the first three days, while NBC will televise the final two days.
