The Texas A&M football team opened the day signing autographs and having pictures made at Kyle Field and ended the day with a scrimmage under the lights.

"I saw some good things and some bad," Head Coach R.C. Slocum said following the scrimmage. "The first few scrimmages are much like the exhibitions in the NFL. We're trying to get a look at a lot of players. I thought we got some good work in and we have some tape to look at and evaluate. We need to take where we are and improve. We will go back to work tomorrow."

Offensive guard Billy Yates, a sophomore from Corsicana, suffered a broken fibula in his right leg. Senior safety Michael Jameson, from Killeen, and offensive tackle Michael Mahan, a sophomore from Homer, Louisiana, both suffered sprained ankles.

Redshirt freshman linebacker Jared Morris, from Brownwood, suffered a stinger after one hit and junior wide receiver Mickey Jones, from Tyler, bruised some ribs.

The Aggies will work once tomorrow afternoon before returning to two-a-day practices on Monday.

Texas A&M, ranked #24 in the USA Today/ESPN pre-season poll, will open the season in two weeks, Sept. 2, against the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame. Kickoff is set for 12 noon central time and will be televised nationally by NBC from South Bend, Indiana.

All practices are closed.
