The No. 24-ranked A&M football team practiced for about an hour in shorts and helmets Sunday evening at the grass practice facility adjacent to Kyle Field.

A day removed from their first formal intra-squad scrimmage, head coach R.C. Slocum said the focus of the workout was to correct some things seen the night before.

"We came out tonight to correct some things we saw from watching the tape from the scrimmage," Slocum said. "We also went through some aspects of our kicking game."

Among those who missed some or all of Sunday's workouts were senior defensive back Michael Jameson who has a bruised Achilles tendon, sophomore defensive lineman Ty Warren who has a sprained ankle, and freshman defensive lineman Linnis Smith who has a sore knee. All are listed as day-to-day.

Earlier in the day, sophomore offensive lineman Billy Yates underwent surgery on his ankle/lower leg that was broken in Saturday's scrimmage. Slocum expects Yates to return for part of the season.

In the interim, Slocum announced that sophomore offensive lineman Taylor Whitley would move into the number one guard sport vacated by Yates. Meanwhile, senior offensive lineman Toby McCarthy will be the back up for both guard positions, as well as the back up to junior center Seth McKinney.

Among those returning to the workout on Sunday was sophomore offensive lineman Michael Mahan.

The Aggies will return to two-a-day workouts on Monday.

The Aggies will open the season on September 2 against Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind., in a game that will be nationally televised by NBC Sports.
