The No. 24-ranked A&M football team practiced twice Wednesday as they used full pads in the morning at the grass practice facility adjacent to Kyle Field and then used shorts and shoulder pads for a situational scrimmage inside Kyle Field in the afternoon.
New to the injury list for the Aggies on Tuesday was sophomore tight end Michael de la Torre who had a sore back. de la Torre underwent back surgery in the off season and was experiencing pain for the first time since two-a-day workouts began.
Among those who missed some or all of Wednesday's workouts were senior defensive back Michael Jameson who has a bruised Achilles tendon, sophomore defensive lineman Ty Warren who has a sprained ankle, and junior defensive lineman Evan Perroni who has a scratch on his right eye and underwent further testing during the day. All are listed as day-to-day.
Returning to the workout was sophomore defensive back Sammy Davis. Junior offensive lineman Tango McCauley suited up for the scrimmage but did not participate in the full speed drills. He is rehabilitating a sprained ankle.
Slocum also announced Wednesday that senior defensive lineman Rocky Bernard underwent surgery on his left knee to repair the anterior cruciate ligament. He will be out for the season, but will redshirt.
The Aggies will open the season on September 2 against Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind., in a game that will be nationally televised by NBC Sports.
