
Centenary Nips Aggies at Buzzer, 63-60

Ronnie McCollum nailed a three-pointer at the buzzer to lift Centenary to a 63-60 upset of Texas A&M Wednesday night at Reed Arena.
McCollum, who also made a game-winning three at the buzzer to hand the Gents a 59-56 win at Southwest Texas State on Monday, finished with a game-high 28 points. McCollum made 6-of-12 three-point attempts.
The Aggies fall to 4-7 while the Gents improve to 5-8. A&M opens Big 12 Conference play against No. 20-ranked Oklahoma on Saturday at 3 p.m. in Norman, Okla. Centenary plays at Texas Tech on Saturday.
A&M trailed by as many as 12 points in the first half and Centenary led, 35-28, at intermission. The Aggies clawed back to take a 55-53 lead with 3:37 left to play. But the Gents regained the lead at 57-55 on a pair of free throws by Ed Dotson with 2:10 left and never trailed again.
A&M's Jamaal Gilchrist tied the game at 60-60 with a driving layup with 11 seconds left before McCollum, the nation's fourth leading scorer, drained the game winner.
Bernard King led the Aggies with 18 points, making 5-of-10 three-pointers, while Jerald Brown added a season-high 16 points and seven rebounds.
