In preparation for this weekend's football game between 23rd-ranked Texas A&M and No. 1 Oklahoma, the Texas A&M Athletics Department and the 12th Man Foundation are hosting a free "Party on the Plaza" in front of the Zone at Kyle Field on Friday from noon until 6 p.m.
"This is an effort to enhance the already tremendous atmosphere surrounding Aggie football," Athletics Director Wally Groff said. "With ESPN Gameday, ABC, several major bowl scouts and the top-ranked team in the country coming to Kyle Field, our goal is to build up and extend the excitement further than we ever have."
Headlining the event, country music singer Curtis Maloney will perform live throughout the day. Other highlights include performances by the Texas Aggie Dance Team, drawings for shirts and caps from the 12th Man Foundation and the Athletics Department, a live remote from Aggie 96 and fun and games for everyone. Capping off the giveaways for the day, the 12th Man Foundation will give away two pairs of Zone Club tickets for Saturday's game. One pair will be given away between 4-5 p.m., while the other will be drawn between 5-6 p.m. The winners must be present to claim the tickets.
"Our two staffs have worked very hard to put this event together We are very excited to work with the Athletic department to put together this fun event. The plaza was an integral part of the Zone project and it is great for the students to get to enjoy it," 12th Man Executive Director Miles Marks said. "We anticipate a large crowd to come out and get fired up for Saturday's game. I want to encourage everyone to wear maroon all weekend and bring their 12th Man towels to yell practice and the game."
Buppy's Catering will be offering a hot dog and a bag of chips for $1, while Aramark concessions will be on hand selling soft drinks. The Aggie Locker will also be selling 12th Man Day t-shirts and 12th Man towels for $1.
