Texas A&M defensive specialist Beth Weynand (Austin, Texas) has been named to the six-member 2000 Verizon Academic All-District VI University Division Volleyball Team, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced today.

The team was selected by the members of CoSIDA in district VI, which encompasses the states of Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas. To be eligible for academic all-district honors, student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve, have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade-point average and have achieved at least sophomore status.

Weynand, a junior athletic eligibility-wise and a senior academically, has maintained a perfect 4.0 grade point average while pursuing her degree in biomedical science. In addition, the Austin native has started 12 of 24 matches and played in all 81 games for the nationally ranked 17-7 Aggies after sitting out last year with a torn ACL. Weynand, who is averaging 1.83 digs per game, has reached double figures in digs in four matches, including a career-high 17 digs in a four-game victory against Colorado Weynand, a 1998 member of the Academic All-Big 12 Volleyball first team, is a two-time All-American Athlete by the National Strength and Conditioning Association and a three-time GTE/Texas A&M Outstanding Scholar (4.0 gpa) and recipient of the A&M volleyball academic award. She also is a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, the Golden Key National Honor Society of Collegiate Scholars and Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority.
