Freshman guard/forward Jesse King of Detroit, Mich., has been admitted to Texas A&M and will begin practicing with the team on Dec. 17, Aggies head coach Melvin Watkins said Monday. Watkins said King could see his first game action on Dec. 22 against Long Beach State.
A 6-7, 215-pound swing man, King played last season at Winchendon (Mass.) School, averaging 18.3 points, 10.1 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game. As a senior at Pershing High School in Detroit, Mich., in 1998-99, King earned all-state and all-city honors after averaging 18.1 points, 7.2 rebounds, 5.1 assists and 3.0 steals per game. He was rated among the top 10 prospects in Michigan and has been compared to former Pershing High School and Atlanta Hawks star Steve Smith by Midwest Hoops.
"We're very excited about Jesse becoming a part of our program as we approach conference play," Watkins said. "He's a talented, versatile athlete who can play both inside and outside, and he will provide us some much-needed depth."
