The Texas A&M football team is slated to take on Mississippi State in the Sanford Independence Bowl on Sunday, but the Aggies' toughest opponent since reaching the Bayou State has been the weather.

Cold and rainy weather forced the Aggies to move their practice site to the artificial surface at the Independence Stadium on Wednesday after the field at Bossier City Parkway High School proved to be too soggy.

The inclement weather that has hit the region also caused the delay of a pair of Aggie players Tango McCauley of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Jessie Hunnicutt on Amarillo, Texas. McCauley arrived via airplane late Tuesday night, while Hunnicutt still hasn't made it to Shreveport.

"We practiced in it because we might face the same weather on Sunday," Aggie head coach R.C. Slocum said. "We had some indoor options, but you're really limited in what you can work on when you go indoors. I thought we had a good practice. The players did a good job of focusing on execution and they flew around pretty good out there."

The Aggies worked out for two hours in full pads.

TICKETS AVAILABLE --- Tickets for the 2000 Sanford Independence Bowl matchup between Texas A&M and Mississippi State can be obtained from Jim Kotch of the Texas A&M Ticket Office by calling 318/524-1868 or coming by room 105 of the Shreveport Sheraton (team headquarters) from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Kotch reports approximately 1,200 ticket remaining from A&M's allotment.

INJURY UPDATE --- Missing Wednesday's bowl workout were: offensive tackle Michael Mahan (stomach virus) and offensive tackle Andre Brooks (sprained ankle). Returning to action was junior wide receiver Robert Ferguson, who has been out of action since the Texas game.
