The Texas A&M football team went through a live scrimmage at Kyle Field on Thursday without the services of 11 players. During the scrimmage, two more players were added to the injured list. Redshirt freshman offensive lineman Alan Reuber, from Plano, broke his right leg and running back Oschlor Flemming, a redshirt freshman from Denton, suffered a bruised shoulder.
"It looked like the defense had a pretty good day today," Aggie Head Coach R.C. Slocum said. "We had a couple of dropped balls and blocked punts on offense which was disappointing. We'll look at the positives and come back with the three remaining days and try to build upon the positives."
"I thought we ran the ball better today and I saw some good things from Richard Whitaker (redshirt freshman from Jacksonville)," Slocum added. "He's got good speed and cutting ability, and he's not afraid to hit it up inside the hole. He'll play a lot this fall. Joe Weber (sophomore from San Bernadino, California) is a bigger, stronger back who can pound it. I think we will have some good backs. We had a couple hurt today and they did not get to participate."
"Thus far in the spring I have been impressed by the play of Jason Glenn (outside linebacker) and Ron Edwards (defensive lineman)," Slocum said. "I think Evan Perroni (defensive lineman) has made great strides and is competing for the starter's position with Rocky Bernard at one defensive end. The three quarterbacks (Mark Farris, Colby Freeman and Vance Smith) have competed well and I expect that to continue. Other young players like Damien West (linebacker), Dwain Goynes (wide receiver) and Richard Whitaker (running back) have stepped up. Sammy Davis (cornerback) is playing like a mature player and he's still a true freshman. Terrance Kiel (safety) has had a good spring."
The list of injured going into the scrimmage includes-- running back Ja'Mar Toombs (hamstring), running back Maurice Harris (hip pointer), tight end Michael de la Torre (back), offensive lineman Michael Mahan (shoulder), offensive lineman Britt Lively (ankle), offensive lineman Taylor Whitley (ankle), wide receiver Bethel Johnson (ankle), linebacker Jared Morris (neck), linebacker Brian Gamble (knee), defensive lineman Rocky Bernard (turf toe), and linebacker Christian Rodriguez (knee).
The Aggies will finish spring drills next week working out Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Tuesday will probably be a scrimmage day.
