H.R. "Bum" Bright, the former owner of the Dallas Cowboys and a longtime Aggie supporter, stepped forward in a major way on Monday with a $5 million donation to the Championship Vision Capital Campaign.
Texas A&M Head Football Coach R.C. Slocum and the 12th Man Foundation Executive Director Miles Marks accepted the donation in Mr. Bright's office in Dallas. Also on hand were Bright's two sons, Chris and Clay, along with 12th Man Foundation representatives Rod Stepp and Bob Mohr and Associate Athletic Director for Football Operations Tim Cassidy.
"This gift is a major step forward for our football program," Slocum said. "It speaks loudly to our current players and prospective recruits of Texas A&M's commitment to be the best. This south end zone football complex will be the premier facility in the country. It will include a player's lounge overlooking Kyle Field, new dressing and training rooms, coaches offices and an academic center with a state-of-the-art computer lab."
Mr. Bright, a 1943 graduate of Texas A&M University, has served the University in several capacities including as Chairman of the Texas A&M Board of Regents.
"I've watched our football program improve over the past three decades and I feel very good about the direction of our program with Coach Slocum at the helm," Bright said. "We are coming off of the best decade in our history and the future looks even brighter. I encourage all good Aggies to support this campaign."
The goal of the Championship Vision Capital Campaign, a joint venture of the Aggie athletic department and the 12th Man Foundation, is to raise $35 million to upgrade existing athletic facilities and to construct state-of-the-art new ones.
