Moscovic Receives All-American Honorable Mention

Texas A&M junior setter Jenna Moscovic has been named to the Asics/Volleyball Magazine All-American honorable mention team, and A&M signees Lexy Beers and Carrie Moreira have been named to the Paul Mitchell/Volleyball Magazine High School All-American Team, according to the publication's March issue.

Moscovic, a member of the magazine's Freshman All-America Team in 1998, directed A&M to a second-place tie in the Big 12 last season with a 14-6 record and also led A&M to its eight consecutive NCAA tournament appearance where the Aggies advanced to the second round and finished the season with a 20-9 mark. In addition, Moscovic was instrumental in A&M's record-setting season in which the team broke the school all-time records, led the Big 12 and was ranked second in the nation with 19.00 kills and 17.21 assists per game.

Moscovic, also a member of the 2000 All-Central Region and All-Big 12 Conference first teams, dished out a school-record 88 assists in a four-game victory at Texas as the Aggies set team records and tied the NCAA record with 109 kills and 104 assists. The Stockton, Calif., native finished the season ranked fourth in the Big 12 and 20th in the nation with 13.63 assists per game for the full season. Moscovic also set an A&M season record by averaging 14.00 assists per game in Big 12 matches only and became the Aggies' career leader with 2,488 assists in conference play.

Other players representing the Big 12 on the Asics All-America team are Nebraska's Greichaly Cepero and Amber Holmquist, who were named to the first team, and Laura Pilakowski, also of Nebraska, and Liz Wegner of Kansas State who each received honorable mention. Huskers head coach John Cook was named Coach of the Year, and Baylor's Stevie Nicholas was named to the All-Freshman team.

Beers, a 5-9 setter from Mira Costa High School in Manhattan Beach, Calif., was named to the high school All-America third team after directing the Mustangs to a 33-2 record this past season and a No. 2 national ranking by FoxSports.com and a No. 7 ranking by Vball.com. Mira Costa won the CIF Southern Section Division I title and advanced to the California state semifinals before falling to eventual state champion and No. 1- ranked Bonita Vista High School (Chula Vista, Calif.).

Moreira, a 5-11 middle blocker from St. Mary's High School in Stockton, received All-American honorable mention after leading the Rams to the Nor-Cal Division I championship and a runner-up finish in the state tournament. Moreira was named to the All-Championship Team after posting 18 kills in the title game in which the Rams fell to No. 1- ranked Bonita Vista in five games. St. Mary's finished the season with a 35-4 record and ranked sixth in the nation by Vball.com and eighth in the country according to FoxSports.com.

Both Beers and Moreira also were recognized as high school All-Americans by both FoxStudentSports.com and Student Sports Magazine.

National champion and Big 12 champion Nebraska had two signees named to the Paul Mitchell/Volleyball Magazine All-America team. Elizabeth Rebholz, a 6-1 middle blocker from Indianapolis, Ind., was named to the first team, and Michelle Lynch, a 5-10 setter from Jacksonville, Ill., was named to the second team.
