The Texas A&M men's golf team concluded its final round of play at the Puerto Rico Invitational, shooting a three-round total of 887 and finishing in seventh place at the Westin Rio Mar Beach Resort and Country Club, Tuesday.
"It wasn't outstanding, but we did play some solid golf," said head coach Bob Ellis. "We beat some highly ranked teams, but still have a long way to go to be where we want to be."
Sophomore Dwayne Morley shot a 74-76-72=222 for a tie at 28th to lead all Aggies. Fellow sophomore Matt Lindholm tied for 31st carding a 75-75-73=223. Senior Casey Cronin placed in a tie for 37th firing a 73-70-81=224. Freshman standout Stephen Reed etched in a tie for 40th posting a 77-73-75=225. Junior Sean Gilliland finished play with a tie for 72nd at 85-84-74=243.
Lucas Glover of Clemson led all individuals for the number one spot at 205 (-11).
Georgia Tech took the highest honors as a team in first place at 861. Clemson fell one stroke behind at 862 for second place followed by Minnesota in third at 865, Georgia (869), Oklahoma (879), Duke (884), North Carolina State (884), Texas A&M (887), Colorado (890), Northwestern (892), East Tennesse State (897), Wake Forest (903), Virginia (903), Kent State (913) and Purdue (927).
The Aggies will get back into the swing of things as they go from the islands to the wetlands of Lafayette, Louisiana to participate in the Louisiana Classics at the Oakburne Country Club March 12-13.
