The Texas A&M football team wrapped up the first week of spring drills a little earlier than anticipated due to lightning.

"This is a disappointing way to end the first week of drills," Aggie Head Coach R.C. Slocum said. "We had to decide whether we would try to practice, but once you meet as a team, the day counts. We got a little work done. The rain did not bother us, but I will not take a chance with lightning. We will have 11 days of work left after spring break."

"I have been impressed by the team's mental approach," Slocum explained. "We've had a lot of enthusiasm and they are working hard. I think we are off to a good start."

During this first week of drills, a few players have been tried at different positions. Amon Simon spent last fall working as both a fullback and a linebacker. This spring he is working only at the linebacker position. With outside linebacker Jarrod Penright missing practice this week, redshirt freshman Everett Smith worked at the outside linebacker spot.
