Sophomore point guard Jamaal Gilchrist has left the Texas A&M basketball team with hopes of resuming his college career closer to his hometown of Washington, D.C., Aggies head coach Melvin Watkins said Monday. Watkins said he was unsure where Gilchrist would transfer.
"Jamaal recently got married and because of his family situation he decided he wanted to explore opportunities to finish his career closer to home," Watkins said. "We respect Jamaal's decision and wish him well."
The 6-foot-0 Gilchrist played in all 58 games, starting in 37, as a freshman and sophomore. As a sophomore, he averaged 7.7 points, 2.6 rebounds and 2.4 assists after averaging 9.4 points, 3.8 rebounds and 4.1 assists as a freshman. He started in the first 35 games of his career.
