The 2001 NCAA Central Regional marked the last collegiate tournament for Aggie seniors Mimi Epps and Marta Ostos.

Epps made another top 25 finish, giving her nine different top 25 finishes this season and marking the 16th time in her career. She finished her senior season with a 75.91 stroke average, putting her second on the all-time Aggie list for lowest single season stroke average. Epps finished her collegiate career with a 78.24 stroke average.

"When I first started here at Texas A&M, I wasn't motivated," said Houston native Mimi Epps. "But my teammates were competitive and I picked up on that. I would try to play in as many tournaments as possible. I made a commitment to myself to be on the traveling squad. In order to do that, I had to be disciplined and work hard. There were a lot of sacrifices, but they were all worth it to me. I'm still improving every aspect of my game. I've had some good finishes in my collegiate career. I was always fortunate to have great teammates and a great coach. Jeanne [Sutherland] has been great. She pushed me to be the best I could be. I had a lot of fun as we both inspired each other. When I look back on it all, it feels great to know that I got further than I ever expected."

Epps plans on staying amateur as she graduated from Texas A&M University this May with a degree in speech communications.

"I really enjoy amateur golfing," said Epps. "But I still need to work on some parts of my game. I might wait a year or so to try and step it up to the next level."

Senior Marta Ostos finished her last season as an Aggie with a 78.72 stroke average. Ostos finished her collegiate career with a 78.83 stroke average and had eight top 25 finishes.

"I love golf," said Ostos. "I get a lot of satisfaction from playing. But I don?â„¢t want to play for a living. I will still play as an amateur. I have other priorities. I want to see what I am capable of doing with my life. More than likely I will end up working around golf. The game has taught me how set goals, listen and be open. Coach [Sutherland] is a great leader. She taught me how to be patient and she was always forward. I think that helps you grow."

Ostos graduated this May as well and plans on pursuing a career in international business back in her native country of Mexico.

"Mimi and Marta have given so much over the last four years," said head coach Jeanne Sutherland. "They are both great people. Both are hard workers and meant a lot to us. Mimi has a whole world of talent. She still needs to develop her game and learn how to compete at a high level. But she will be successful. Marta will always be a good golfer at whatever level she chooses to play."

The 2000-2001 Texas A&M women?â„¢s golf team finished in the top 10 in nine out of 11 tournaments this season. The team also had three top five finishes including a second place tie at its home tournament, the Verizon "Mo" Morial, missing first place by only two strokes. There were 19 top 25 finishes, eight top 10 finishes and three top five finishes by A&M individuals on the season.
