July 12, 2001
Texas A&M senior center Seth McKinney and junior cornerback Sammy Davis were named to the Football News Pre-Season All-America squads. McKinney was named to the first-team offense as an offensive lineman and Davis was named to the second-team squad as a defensive back.
McKinney, an Outland and Lombardi Award candidate, has already earned his undergraduate degree at Texas A&M. He has started every game possible (38 straight) in his Aggie career and he makes the offensive line calls at the line of scrimmage. He was named to several All-Big 12 teams last season as well as earning third-team All-America mention as a junior. He was voted the Aggies' MVP Offensive lineman after last season. McKinney played at Austin Westlake High School before joining the Aggies.
Davis, from Humble High School, tied for the team lead last season with four interceptions while making 38 stops at his cornerback position. He also broke up 10 passes last fall. Many opponents stayed away from his side of the field. Davis earned All-Big 12 honors last season despite being hampered by a sprained ankle late in the year.
Veterans report for drills on Aug. 9 with the first day of full squad two-a-day workouts slated for Aug. 11. The Aggies open the 2001 season on Sept. 1 at Kyle Field when they play host to the McNeese State Cowboys.
