The Texas A&M football team's freshman class hit the practice field for a pair of workouts on Tuesday, although the afternoon workout was cut short due to lightning.
"I was impressed by what I saw out there today," head coach R.C. Slocum said. "Just like every year, you can tell who worked hard over the summer and who didn't, but this is a good class. Some of these guys will help us this year."
The arrival of Dallas Kimball defensive back Jarvis Mays completed the 27-member freshman class. Mays missed the morning workout while taking his physical, but was on the field for the afternoon session.
The Aggie freshmen will go through academic orientation on Wednesday before returning to the practice field on Thursday for a pair of workouts.
FYI --- Texas A&M's 2001 class of first-year players consists of 27 freshmen (22 scholarship, 5 walkon), making it the only group of newcomers in the Big 12 Conference to include no junior college transfers.
