The Aggie football veterans were welcomed back to campus by Texas A&M Head Coach R.C. Slocum Thursday evening.
"It looks like everyone is excited to be back and we are anxious to get started," Slocum said. "We have a day of physicals, testing and other meetings on Friday. Then we will start two-a-day practices beginning on Saturday."
The freshmen worked out twice on Thursday. Wide receiver Jesse Woods, from Katy taylor High School, only worked out once. He will continue to be somewhat limited as he recovers from knee surgery.
The group of veterans joined the freshmen players for dinner on Thursday at Cain Dining Hall.
The freshmen will have the opportunity to sing "The Spirit of Aggieland" in front of the veteran players. When asked for an early scouting report on the singing ability of the youngsters, Slocum responded, "They better be good football players."
Coach Slocum mentioned the entire football team will sing the Texas A&M alma mater on the field prior to each home kickoff.
The Aggies open the 2001 football season on Saturday, Sept. 1 against McNeese State. Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m. at Kyle Field.
All practices are closed.
