The Texas A&M football team conducted a two hour live action scrimmage in full pads Wednesday evening at Kyle Field.
The workout marked the first for the Aggies in full pads.
"It was a typical first scrimmage for us," head coach R.C. Slocum said. "We were a little ragged in spots, but I also saw some positives."
One of the areas that caught Slocum's eye was the play of a couple of freshmen offensive players, receiver Terrence Murphy from Tyler, Texas, and running back Keith Joseph from Houston.
"We had some freshmen out there tonight making good plays for us," Slocum said. "Terrence Murphy made a couple of receptions and I thought Keith Joseph ran the ball well."
Joseph saw significant playing time as returning starter Richard Whitaker missed the workout due to a mild sprained knee. He is listed as day to day.
Also missing the workout was defensive lineman Evan Perroni (groin), receiver Bryant Singleton (hamstring), and defensive back Jarvis Mays (hip flexor).
Slocum also mentioned that summer grades have been reported, including those of sophomore receiver Jamaar Taylor from Mission, Texas.
"Jamaar Taylor is eligible," Slocum said. "All of the guys we were counting on are all here.
"Jamaar had been on the border line academically, but this summer he worked hard to catch up. He's a bright young man and we are excited to have him out here."
A&M opens the season on September 1 against McNeese State at 6 p.m. at Kyle Field.
On Saturday, August 18, the Aggies will welcome fans to Kyle Field for the annual Cingular Wireless Photo and Autograph day. The event is free and will begin at 10 a.m.
