Andy Dawson has been named assistant men?s golf coach at Texas A&M, Aggies head coach J. T. Higgins said Friday.

Dawson has worked for the American Junior Golf Association for the last three years, serving as Director of Tournament Development in 2000-01, Tournament Director in 1999-00 and as an intern in 1998-99.

"In the last three years, Andy has been one of the rising stars in the American Junior Golf Association," Higgins said. "He is respected throughout amateur, junior and collegiate golf for his work ethic and dedication. He is well-liked and well-known by junior golfers around the country. Andy also is one of the most organized individuals I have ever come into contact with. He is an expert in running golf tournaments and has a depth of knowledge on the rules of golf. All in all, he is a great addition to our program and we are very fortunate to have him on board."

A 1998 graduate of the University of Florida with a degree in sports management, Dawson played college baseball at Central Florida Community College, where he earned academic all-conference honors. In high school, he earned all-state baseball honors in Connecticut.

"I'm excited about joining such a strong athletic program and I'm looking forward to helping coach Higgins build his program," Dawson said. "With the addition of the Traditions Golf Club, we expect the golf program to have a very bright future."
