The Texas A&M football team changed up two-a-day workouts just a bit on Saturday. The Aggies met fans and signed autographs and had photographs taken at Kyle Field in the morning, then came back for a two-hour scripted scrimmage in the evening.

"I saw some good things and some bad things," Head Coach R.C. Slocum said. "We've got a lot of injuries and when you're missing players you lose consistency."

"Mark Farris had a fever and was held out," Slocum added. "Richard Whitaker's knee surgery went well."

Whitaker suffered a slightly torn meniscus in his knee and underwent arthroscopic surgery.

Pre-season All-America center Seth McKinney returned to workouts after missing Friday night's practice with back spasms.

Coach Slocum mentioned the play of defensive back Wes Bautovich, running back Keith Joseph and punter Cody Scates as some of the highlights of the scrimmage.

The Aggies will meet and review the film from the scrimmage before returning to the practice field Sunday night. The team returns to two-a-day workouts on Monday.

The Aggies open the 2001 season two weeks from Saturday against McNeese State with a 6 p.m. kickoff at Kyle Field on Sept. 1.
