The Texas A&M football team held a two hour practice in full pads Tuesday night at the grass practice fields near Kyle Field.
Returning to the workout and catching the eye of A&M head coach R.C. Slocum was sophomore running back Richard Whitaker who returned after missing a week of work following a knee surgery to repair a torn meniscus.
"Richard (Whitaker) was back out today and working out," Slocum said. "And from what I saw, I think he'll have the chance to play Saturday. If he continues to practice like he did today, I will consider playing him in a limited role."
There were no new injuries to report, but missing the workout were running back Derek Farmer (broken finger), wide receiver Mickey Jones (sprained MCL), and tight end Fred Spiller (back). All three are questionable for the McNeese State game.
Following the practice, Slocum asked U.S. Senator Phil Gramm to address the team.
A&M opens the season on Saturday against McNeese State at 6 p.m. at Kyle Field.
