Aggie Postgame Notes
TAYLOR'S CATCH --- Sophomore wide receiver Jamaar Taylor's 64-yard yard touchdown reception was a career-long and also was the Aggies long offensive play from scrimmage this season. It was the longest offensive play for the Aggies since Dwain Goynes hauled in a 76-yard touchdown pass from Mark Farris last year against Iowa State.
For the game, Taylor posted career-highs in catches and yards with 9 for 146 yards, including a pair of touchdowns (also a career high).
MURPHY SETS FRESHMAN CATCHES/YARDS RECORD --- Freshman wide receiver Terrence Murphy (Tyler Chapell Hill HS) broke the A&M freshman records for single game receptions and receiving yards with a spectacular game against Colorado. Murphy, who was in the process of earning district offensive MVP honors as a quarterback at this time last year, hauled in 10 catches for 146 yards, including a 36-yard TD reception, against the Buffs. The former record for single game receptions by a freshman was six by then-running back Rod Bernstine against Arkansas in 1983, while the record for freshman receiving yards was 99 by Brian Mitchell against Baylor in 1991.
ABOUT THOSE RECEIVERS --- Taylor and Murphy became just the second A&M tandem with 100-yard receiving performances in the same game. The other pair was Tony Harrison (144) and Ryan Mathews (108) against TCU in 1991 (Coryatt hit game). Taylor and Murphy's 100-yard receiving games were the first of the year by an Aggie, and the first since Robert Ferguson posted 105 yards on 8 catches vs. Oklahoma in 2000.
FARRIS AIRS IT OUT, HITS 4,000 YARDS IN 20 GAMES --- Junior quarterback Mark Farris posted the third 300-yard passing game of his career by completing 30-of-49 passes for 334 yards (just off his career high of 341 set against Wyoming earlier this year). He also threw for a career-high three touchdowns against CU.
Farris also became A&M's sixth 4,000-yard career passer today, raising his career passing yards total to 4,040 in just 20 games at quarterback (17 starts). For his career, Farris is averaging 202.1 yards passing per game. The school record for career passing yards average is 185.9 by Kevin Murray from 1983, 85-86.
ALTITUDE SUITS SCATES --- Sophomore punter Cody Scates had a strong game in the altitude of Boulder, averaging a season-high 42.8 yards on eight boots. His previous season-best was 42.3 against Oklahoma State.
OTHER NOTABLES --- The Aggie offense was held to a season-low 42 yards rushing, while giving up a season-high 170 ground yards on defense … The Wrecking Crew could manage just one quarterback sack today, matching their season-low (McNeese State) … The Aggies outgained Colorado 377 to 353, but the CU offense controlled the ball for 35:53 to A&M's 24:07 and ran a whopping 80 offensive plays … CU's Cortlen Johnson's two-yard touchdown plunge at the 11:45 mark of the 4th quarter was the first points allowed by the A&M defense in the fourth quarter this season. It was also the first drive of more than 50 yards allowed by the A&M defense since the second quarter of the Wyoming game. … Today's 12th Man Kickoff team representative was Blake Kendrick, a 6-1, 212-pound redshirt freshman from Willis, Texas … game captains were: junior defensive lineman Ty Warren, sophomore punter/kicker Cody Scates, junior safety Terrence Kiel and junior offensive tackle Michael Mahan.
