Led by Stephen Reed's three-under-par 69, the Texas A&M men's golf team carded a final-round of three-over-par 291 on Tuesday and finished 12th at the Gary Koch/Cleveland Golf Intercollegiate at Old Memorial Golf Club.
Reed, a sophomore from Houston, tied for 15th in the individual standings with rounds of 77-73-69=219, 12 strokes behind individual champion Camilo Villegas of Florida, who carded scores of 73-62-72=207. Florida's Bubba Dickerson, the reigning U.S. Amateur champion, finished second at 70-69-69=208.
No. 10-ranked Florida cruised to the team title with a 54-hole total of 843, 26 strokes better than runners-up North Florida (869) and TCU (869). Kentucky finished fourth at 872, followed by Ohio State (873), Mississippi (877), North Carolina State (877), LSU (886), Florida State (889), College of Charleston (891), Rhode Island (893), A&M (894), Georgia State (902), South Florida (905) and Central Florida (915).
Also for A&M, freshman Tyler Garrett (Houston) tied for 24th at 77-71-73=221, senior Shaun Helmle (Pasadena) finished 53rd at 75-76-75=226, freshman Rand Arbuckle (College Station) tied for 59th at 79-75-74=228 and senior Josh McCoy (Perryton) placed 76th at 81-85-78=244.
The Aggies close their fall schedule Oct. 29-30 at the Henry Griffitts/Baylor Intercollegiate in Waco.
