Senior All-America candidate Jenna Moscovic posted her fourth triple double of the season with 12 kills, 56 assists and a season-high 17 digs while leading No. 17 Texas A&M to a 30-27, 26-30, 30-25, 30-21 victory over Kansas at the Horejsi Family Athletic Center.
With the win, A&M improves to 13-3 overall, including 10-0 on the road, and 6-2 in the Big 12 Conference. Kansas falls to 12-8 and 2-7 in conference.
Kansas held a 12-8 lead in Game 1 but A&M eventually tied the game at 17 on a Jayhawk kill error. A&M, who had a 4-2 advantage to start the game, took its second lead of the game at 21-20 on an attack error by Sarah Rome and never trailed the remainder of the ame.
A kill by Brandi Mount from the back row put the Aggies serving for game point at 29-25, but Kansas prolonged the frame with back-to-back kills. Following an A&M timeout, Erin Lechler put down the game-winning kill.
Kansas jumped out to a 4-0 lead to start the second game and built a game-high six-point lead at 9-3. A&M eventually tied the score at 18 on one of Melissa Munsch’s 12 kills of the match. There were four more ties before the Jayhawks took a 24-23 advantage and never looked back. Up 25-24, Kansas scored three consecutive points to pull ahead, 28-24. A kill by Michelle Cole and an ace by A.D. Achilefu got A&M back within two points, but a Kansas kill and an A&M attack error gave the Jayhawks the game and evened the match at one game apiece.
Kansas held a 24-22 lead in Game 3 when the Aggies reeled off four unanswered points. The Jayhawks ended the rally with a kill, but A&M responded with four more points, the final two by Munsch to put A&M ahead two games to one.
The Aggies, who hit a blistering .465 in the third game, kept the pace in the final game, hitting at a .463 clip. After spotting the Jayhawks the first point of the game, the Aggies put down six consecutive kills and added a block to take a 7-1 lead. A&M built a nine-point lead at 16-7 when Kansas strung together four unanswered points. It was the closest the Jayhawks would get.
A&M built a game-high 12-point lead at 27-15, but Kansas refused to fold and rallied for six straight points. Kills by Cole and Moscovic and a Jayhawk kill error ended the match.
Cole led the Aggies with 17 kills and a .429 hitting percentage as A&M outhit Kansas, .318 to .194 in the match. It was the best hitting percentage by the Aggies in Big 12 play this season.
Kansas was led by Rome, who posted a match-high 20 kills. She was the only Jayhawk to reach double figures in kills.
The Aggies return home to host the Missouri Tigers on Saturday and then host Kansas State in a make-up match on Monday. Both matches begin at 7 p.m. at G. Rllie White Coliseum, and both visitors sport identical 0-5 records in matches played in College Station.
