Texas A&M Notes
NOTABLES
Junior quarterback Vance Smith saw his first action of the season with his fourth-quarter appearance against Oklahoma. It was his first action since the Iowa State game last season.
Junior quarterback Mark Farris finished the day with just 59 yards passing yards (on 10-of-20 passing), the lowest passing output of his starting career. The last time he threw for fewer yards was the 1999 Oklahoma game when he completed 3-of-10 passes for 30 yards in mop-up duty.
Aggie punter/placekicker Cody Scates averaged 44.0 yards on 10 punts.
The Aggies started four true freshmen on offense - wide receivers Terrence Murphy and Terrence Thomas, offensive tackle Jami Hightower and tight end Thomas Carriger.
Wide receiver Terrence Thomas started the first game of his career against Oklahoma.
The first-quarter interception by reserve linebacker Everett Smith was the first of his career. The ensuing touchdown fumble return by linebacker Brian Gamble marked the first touchdown of Gamble's career.
Serving as the 12th Man Kickoff Team representative against Oklahoma was Bobby Jordan, a senior from Brenham, Texas A&M University
Aggie captains were: sophomore punter/placekicker Cody Scates, senior outside linebacker Christian Rodriguez, senior inside linebacker Harold Robertson and junior offensive guard Billy Yates.
The Aggies have given up a touchdown with less than a minute remaining in the first half in three games this season, including a 13-yard touchdown pass from Nate Hybl to Antwone Savage with :59 remaining in the second quarter against OU today. A&M also gave up late scores to Colorado (:12) and Kansas State (:07).
The Aggies posted a season-low five first downs, the lowest by the A&M offense since 1997 when the Aggies were limited to four by Kansas State in a 36-17 Wildcat victory. A&M's 132 yards of total offense were a season-low and the lowest by the Aggies since 1999 when they were limited to 118 yards in a 37-0 loss to Nebraska. The Aggies converted a season-low two third-down conversions, and it was the fewest third-down conversions by the Aggies since the 1999 Texas Tech game when they converted one (1-12).
MORE INJURIES
Defensive end Ty Warren returned to the sidelines in street clothes after halftime after aggravating a shoulder injury in the first half. Running back Derek Farmer hyper-extended his right knee on his second play from scrimmage and played only sparingly after that and not at all in the second half. Farmer missed three days of practice last week with a patella contusion on his left knee.
Wide receiver Greg Porter played for the first time since the Notre Dame game, but was in on only a handful of plays. Porter broke three bones in his foot in practice prior to the Baylor game. He missed five games.
Offensive tackle Andre Brooks played for the first time since the Colorado game. He missed four of the past five games due to a knee injury and surgery.
