Texas A&M defensive specialist Beth Weynand has been named to the six-member 2001 Verizon Academic All-District VI Volleyball First Team for the second consecutive year, and setter Jenna Moscovic was selected to the second team, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced Thursday.

The team was selected by members of CoSIDA in District VI, which encompasses the states of Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas. To be eligible for academic all-district honors, student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve, have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade-point average and have achieved at least sophomore status.

Weynand, a senior from Austin, Texas (Stephen F. Austin High School), has maintained a perfect 4.0 grade-point average while pursuing her degree in biomedical science. A member of the 2000 Verizon Academic All-America third team, Weynand is slated to graduate in December.

Weynand has played in every match and started 17 this season for the 13th-ranked Aggies. She is averaging 2.15 digs per game to help lead the team to a No. 7 national ranking for digs. Weynand has reached double figures in digs in six matches, including a season-high 12 digs against No. 2 Nebraska.

A two-time member of the Academic All-Big 12 Volleyball first team, Weynand also is a three-time All-American Athlete by the National Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association and a four-time GTE/Texas A&M Outstanding Scholar Athlete (4.0 gpa) and Texas A&M volleyball academic award recipient. In addition, Weynand received the 2000-01 Bill Erwin Scholar-Athlete Award honoring the top female student athlete at Texas A&M.

Weynand, the daughter of Mike and Valerie Weynand, is a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, Aggie Buddies, the Golden Key National Honor Society of Collegiate Scholars and Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority.

Moscovic is a senior setter majoring in accounting. The Stockton, Calif., native has been named to the all-tournament team in both tournaments that A&M participated in this season, including MVP honors at the Rice Invitational. Moscovic, the Big 12 Player of the Week for Sept. 28, is tied for the national lead with four triple-doubles and is ranked 14th nationally with 13.07 assists per game as A&M leads the country in team assists.

A four-year starter, Moscovic was named to Volleyball Magazine's Freshman All-America team in 1998 and was an All-American honorable mention as a junior. She is a two-time member of both the AVCA all-district team and the all-Big 12 first team.

The daughter of Dave and Linda Moscovic, Jenna is ranked second in the A&M all-time career records for assists (4,790) and holds the A&M record for assists in a match with 88.
