Jenna Moscovic has been named to the 2001 AVCA All-America First Team, the American Volleyball Coaches Association announced today. She will be recognized at the AVCA All-American/Player of the Year banquet in San Diego, Calif., on Friday in conjunction with the NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Final Four.

The four-year starting setter from Stockton, Calif., capped her collegiate career by becoming only the second player in A&M volleyball history to earn first-team honors in the 21 years of the award and only the fourth Aggie to receive All-America distinction from the AVCA. Former teammate Amber Woolsey became the first Aggie to receive first-team laurels after she and Moscovic directed A&M to its first appearance in the NCAA Elite Eight in 1999. Former Aggie Sherri Brinkman earned AVCA second-team accolades in 1984 and 1985, as did Stacy Sykora in 1997 and 1998.

As a senior, Moscovic captained the Aggies to their second appearance in the Elite Eight as No. 15 A&M upset No. 6 Wisconsin in three games in the regional semifinals last week in Palo Alto, Calif. The Aggies, who finished the season with a 26-6 record, matched the 1999 squad for the best finish in school history by placing second in the Big 12 with a 16-4 mark and advancing to the regional finals.

Moscovic led the nation with five triple-double performances (kills, assists, digs) in 2001 and had A&M ranked No. 1 in the country in assist average and No. 5 in kill average entering the NCAA tournament. In addition, Moscovic averaged 12.93 assists per game and led the Aggies with a .338 hitting percentage as a senior and finished her career with 503 kills and 1,000 digs and ranked second in the A&M records with 5,074 assists.

The most highly decorated setter in A&M history, Moscovic, was honored as the Big 12 Freshman of the Year and was named to Volleyball Magazine's freshman All-America team in 1998. As a junior, she garnered All-American honorable mention by Volleyball Magazine. Moscovic is a three-time member of both the AVCA all-region team and the all-Big 12 first team. In addition, she is a three-time member of the Academic All-Big 12 Team and was named to the 2001 Verizon Academic All-District VI team by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Moscovic is one of five players representing the Big 12 on the 2001 All-America teams. Nebraska's Amber Holmquist and Nancy Metcalf join Moscovic on the 12-member first team, and Huskers Greichaly Cepero and Jenny Kropp are on the second team.

The All-America selections were made by the AVCA Division I All-America Committee: chair -Bonnie Kenny, Massachusetts; Judy Green, Alabama; Janice Kruger, Maryland; Kathy Litzau, Wisconsin-Milwaukee; Jeff Nelson, Texas Tech; Steve Schlick, Cal Poly; Patti Snyder-Park, Arizona State; Pete Waite, Wisconsin, and Sharon Dingman, Illinois State, AVCA Awards Chair.
