The Texas A&M football team practiced for two hours in full pads Thursday night at the grass practice fields after spending the morning hours holding strength training sessions and a walk through.
Following the evening workout, A&M head coach R.C. Slocum announced that freshman running back Derek Farmer from Tyler, Texas, has broken the index finger on his left hand and will be listed as questionable for the season opening game. Also, Slocum said that senior wide receiver Mickey Jones has a slight tear of his medial collateral ligament in his knee and will also be listed as questionable for the McNeese State game. Jones' injury will not require surgery.
Others missing the workout were offensive lineman Andre Brooks (hip flexor), placekicker Cody Scates (groin), defensive lineman Rocky Bernard (ankle sprain), tight end Fred Spiller (back), offensive tackle Michael Mahan (stomach virus) and running back Richard Whitaker (knee).
Freshman wide receiver Terrence Murphy (groin), tight end Joey Perot (shoulder) and defensive back Adam Black returned to the workouts.
The Aggies will hold one practice on Friday morning before beginning game preparations on Sunday afternoon.
A&M opens the season on September 1 against McNeese State at 6 p.m. at Kyle Field.
