Texas A&M All-American center Seth McKinney will close out his collegiate career playing in the annual Senior Bowl in Mobile, Alabama, on Saturday, Jan. 26. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. and the game will be televised nationally by ESPN.
McKinney started every game possible in his Aggie career, 50 consecutive games at center for Texas A&M. He is only the fifth Division I-A center to start all four years. McKinney earned first-team Verizon CoSIDA Academic All-American honors, as well as earning consensus second-team All-America honors. He was runnerup for the Rimington Trophy presented to the nation's top center and he was a consensus first-team All-Big 12 selection on the offensive line.
The Austin Westlake High School product swept all of the Aggie offensive honors this season being named the team's offensive MVP, offensive team captain and the most valuable offensive lineman. All of the awards were voted upon by his teammates.
Last spring, the Aggie athletic department named McKinney it's male Scholar-Athlete. He graduated last spring with an undergraduate degree in management information systems from the College of Business. McKinney is close to finishing up work on his master's degree in the same field of study.
McKinney, the son of Mike and Lou Ann McKinney from Austin, has an older brother, Steve, who is an offensive lineman for the Indianapolis Colts and a former football player at Texas A&M University.
As part of the 2001 senior class, McKinney leaves Aggieland with two Big 12 South Division crowns as well as the overall 1998 Big 12 Championship from the double-overtime victory over top-ranked Kansas State. The group of seniors played in four bowl games and compiled an overall record of 34-16, including a 21-3 mark in games played at Kyle Field. The class compiled a 21-game home winning streak that included a win against second-ranked Nebraska in 1998.
Defensive lineman Rocky Bernard will represent Texas A&M in the next weekend's Hula Bowl.
