Texas A&M junior Bernard King recorded his sixth career 30-point game in the Aggies upset win at Texas. The guard followed that with a 22-point effort against No. 2 Kansas and has been named Phillips 66 Big 12 Player of the Week. Oklahoma State sophomore Ivan McFarlin has been named the Phillips 66 Big 12 Rookie of the Week after he averaged 16 points and 12.5 rebounds in two wins last week. Both honors are voted on by a media panel.
King averaged 26 points in two games against nationally-ranked teams. In the 80-74 win at Texas, the Gibsland, La., native scored 30 points and made 3-of-4 three pointers and was 13-for-14 from the line. King also had seven assists and six rebounds against the Longhorns. In the 86-74 loss to Kansas, King scored 22 points and was 3-for-5 from three-point range. This marks the first time a Texas A&M student-athlete has been named Phillips 66 Big 12 Player of the Week since the league began in 1996-97. Aggies have been named Phillips 66 Big 12 Rookie of the Week 10 times, which includes King twice in 1999-2000.
McFarlin opened the week registering career highs in points (20) and rebounds (17) in the 70-63 win against Nebraska. The Missouri City, Texas, forward?â„¢s 17 boards were the most by a Cowboy since All-America Bryant Reeves pulled down 20 rebounds against Kansas in 1995. McFarlin?â„¢s three blocked shots against the Huskers was his sixth multiple-block game this season. In the 64-55 win against Colorado McFarlin made 6-of-8 shots and scored 12 points. He also had eight rebounds against the Buffs.
