The Texas A&M men’s golf team carded a 36-hole score of three-over-par on Monday and is in the third place going into the final round of the Louisiana Classics at Oakbourne Country Club.

The final round begins at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

SMU leads the 15-team tournament after posting rounds of 291-282=573 on Monday, three strokes ahead of second-place Texas Tech (287-289=576) and six strokes ahead of the Aggies (287-292=579). Texas-San Antonio is fourth at 581, followed by Tulsa (584), Kansas (584), Louisiana-Lafayette (584), Missouri (585), North Texas (587), Colorado (587), Baylor (587), Southern Mississippi (589), Memphis (594), Arkansas (298) and Rice (615).

Tech’s Mark Hull carded rounds of 69-70=139 to lead SMU’s Jerome Theunis (70-70=140) by one stroke in the individual race.

Freshman Tyler Garrett led the Aggies, posting rounds of 71-73=144 and is tied for 13th place. Also for A&M, sophomore Stephen Reed (75-71=146), junior Dwayne Morley (71-75=146) and senior Sean Gilliland (73-73=146) are tied for 18th place, while sophomore Parker Briley is tied for 26th at 72-75=147.

“We played probably our most intelligent two rounds all year on Monday,” A&M coach J.T. Higgins said. “We made a lot of birdies and stayed away from the big numbers. If we can continue to do that on Tuesday, we’ve got a great chance to win the golf tournament.”
