The Texas A&M football team went through a two-hour workout on Thursday, one of its "non-contact" days.
"We could not have any tackling today," Head Coach R.C. Slocum said. "Even with no contact, as a coach you are nervous about injuries."
Coach Slocum singled out the play of senior All-American candidate Sammy Davis and sophomore wide receiver Terrence Thomas.
"Terrence Thomas made some nice catches today and I thought had an excellent practice," Slocum said. "I had him call the team up at the end of practice."
"Sammy Davis is a standout player," Slocum explained. "It's fun watching him work to keep getting better. You can see he has matured and is excited about the future."
The Aggies spent the first part of the workout working with special teams for the Maroon & White Game, presented by AT&T Wireless.
"It's tough with the numbers we have to have two full special team units in all areas," Slocum said. "We wanted to at least get them organized for Saturday."
"We (the coaches) split the teams with the first offensive line going against the first defensive line in the spring game," Slocum said. "The rest of the team we split as evenly as possible. We will try to have as close to a regular game as possible."
The Maroon & White Spring Game, presented by AT&T Wireless, will kickoff at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday at Kyle Field. Tickets are $5 for adults and $2 for high school age and under. High school coaches may present their coaching card for two admissions. Texas A&M students will be admitted with their football or all-sports pass. Proceeds from the game go to the Texas A&M Athletics Capital Campaign. Gates open at 11:30 a.m.
More than 450 former Texas A&M football lettermen will return to Aggieland this weekend for a reunion and to watch the spring game as well as the ground-breaking ceremony for the new south end zone football complex and academic center. Ceremonies begin at 11 a.m. and are open to the public.
