Texas A&M senior golfer Sean Gilliland (Killeen, Texas/Harker Heights HS) has been named to the All-American Scholar Team by the Golf Coaches Association of America for the second straight year, Aggies coach J.T. Higgins said Monday.
Gilliland, an agronomy major, is a three-time member of the Academic All-Big 12 Team. Gilliland played in 37 tournaments in his college career, including 11 in the 2001-02 season, when he ranked second on the team in scoring.
As a sophomore, Gilliland earned first-team All-Big 12 honors after playing in all 13 tournaments and tying for first at the Pepperdine-STRATA Intercollegiate. He finished fifth at the 2000 Big 12 Championships and set the school scoring record for regional play with a final-round 67 at the 2000 NCAA Central Regional.
"I'm really proud of Sean for making Academic All-America honors again this season," Higgins said. "He has a bright future in whatever he decides to pursue and will continue to be a credit to Texas A&M University and our golf program."
