Games against Tennessee, LSU and Miami (Fla.) highlight Texas A&M's 2002-03 non-conference men's basketball schedule announced Thursday by head coach Melvin Watkins.
The 11-game non-conference slate includes six home games, two road games and three neutral site games. In addition, the Aggies will play a pair of home exhibition games on Nov. 11 and Nov. 19.
The regular season will open at home against Texas Southern on Nov. 24, followed by a road game at Miami on Nov. 26. On Nov. 30, A&M will meet LSU at the Reliant Center in Houston before playing Oakland (Dec. 2) and Tennessee (Dec. 4) at home. After a road matchup with Prairie View A&M on Dec. 7, the Aggies play host to Texas-San Antonio (Dec. 14) and Louisiana-Monroe (Dec. 21).
A&M will play in the Cable Car Classic Dec. 27-28 in Santa Clara, Calif., a tournament that includes Santa Clara, SMU and Princeton. The Aggies close the non-conference schedule at home against Centenary on Jan. 2.
"It's always a concern to play such as tough schedule," Watkins said. "I think our team will be able to handle these challenges. It is an exciting schedule that our fans can really get into and hopefully they will come out and support us."
The Big 12 Conference schedule will be released later this summer. A&M will play South Division opponents Texas, Texas Tech, Baylor, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State twice each on a home-and-away basis, and will meet North Division foes Iowa State, Kansas State and Missouri at home and Kansas, Colorado and Nebraska on the road.
The Big 12 Tournament will be March 13-16 at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, the first time the tournament has been played outside of Kansas City.
