The Texas A&M football team practiced twice Wednesday at the grass practice fields near Kyle Field.

The team donned full pads for the first time for the evening workout.

"I thought they looked good, real good," Slocum said. "We do have a few guys nicked up. We've also had classes all week and several guys have missed some practice, but the rest of the guys that were here got a lot of reps."

One of those benefiting from the upperclassmen finishing summer school was freshman quarterback Reggie McNeal from Lufkin, Texas.

"With Mark (Farris), Dustin (Long), and Jason Carter out at class, Reggie was the lone quarterback out here," Slocum said. "He's thrown a lot of balls and has a little rotatorcuff soreness. He didn't throw the ball all day today."

Slocum said he expected McNeal's soreness to dissipate shortly.

Slocum also said that redshirt freshman wide receiver Bryant Singleton, who is from Galveston, Texas, saw action at cornerback after several defensive backs missed work due to the last day of final exams.

"(Singleton) looked so good back there that we're going to give him a few days there to see how it goes," Slocum said.

Among those missing part of the workouts on Wednesday were sophomore running back Derek Farmer, who left late with an ankle injury, and junior linebacker Jared Morris did not participate after suffering a slight concussion.

The Aggies will hold one practice on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. All practices are open to the public and will be held at the grass practice facility. Fans should check for the specific practice schedule daily on AggieAthletics.com.

The No. 23-ranked Aggies kickoff the 2002 season on Saturday, August 31 against Louisiana-Lafayette at 6 p.m. at Kyle Field.
