Texas A&M starting quarterback Mark Farris quieted concerns that he might not play in the season opener by throwing the ball more than coach R.C. Slocum anticipated during practice on Tuesday and feeling good about it.

Farris had been limited recently after suffering from a soreness in his arm, but Slocum said that he has no concerns about Farris playing this Saturday.

"Mark (Farris) worked out today and threw the ball well," Slocum said. "It looks like he will be fine. I have no concerns with him and I think he is ok. He threw the ball more than I anticipated today and he said it felt good."

Slocum also mentioned the return of wide receiver Jamaar Taylor to the workouts.

"Jamaar Taylor was back out there today," Slocum said. "He looked good."

Slocum then announced that freshman redshirt linebacker John Boutte, from Lake Charles, La., has "left the team for personal reasons and he has left school, too."

The Aggies practiced for nearly two hours in full pads on Tuesday at the grass practice fields.

A&M will kickoff the 2002 season on Saturday against Louisiana-Lafayette at 6 p.m. at Kyle Field.
