The Texas A&M men's golf team carded a final round of 299 on Saturday and finished 16th at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate at the University of New Mexico's Championship Golf Course.
Host New Mexico won the event for the second straight year with an even-par total of 864, five strokes ahead of runner-up UNLV (869). Arizona finished third at 874, followed by San Diego State (875), Texas Tech (876), Colorado State (878), BYU (882), New Mexico State (883), Oregon State (884), New Mexico JV (886), Oklahoma (887), Pepperdine (890), Texas-El Paso (893), Colorado (903), Utah (907), A&M (300-309-299=908), Air Force (909) and Wyoming (915).
New Mexico's Michael Letzig captured the individual crown with a nine-under-par total of 69-68-70=207 on the par 72, 7,727-yard golf course. UNLV's Ryna Moore finished second at 69-69-72=210.
Junior David Tasker led A&M, tying for 22nd place with rounds of 69-78-73=220. Also for the Aggies, junior Stephen Reed tied for 42nd at 73-77-74=224, senior Shaun Helmle tied for 68th at 80-76-74=230, freshman Mike Rim tied for 83rd at 78-78-78=234 and junior Parker Briley tied for 93rd at 83-78-80=241. Junior Mark Schultz, competing as an individual, tied for 95th at 81-77-84=242.
The Aggies return to action Sept. 30-Oct. 1 at the Jim Colbert Intercollegiate in Manhattan, Kan.
