Colorado RB Chris Brown, Kansas State LB Terry Pierce, Texas A&M DE Ty Warren (Co-Defensive), and Iowa State PR-WR Todd Miller have been tabbed as SBC Big 12 Conference Players of the Week for games of Sept. 21 in voting by a select panel of media covering the Big 12.
Brown of Naperville, Ill., Pierce of Fort Worth, Texas, Warren of Bryan, Texas, and Miller of Mount Pleasant, Iowa, were named as SBC Offensive, Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Week.
The Colorado standout RB carried 26 times for 188 net yards and three TD in the Buffaloes' 31-17 win at then-No. 20 UCLA. He also rushed for 12 first downs, ran 14 times on first down for 111 yards (a 7.9 avg.), enjoyed his seventh 100-yard career game, and tallied his second-highest rushing yardage total for a single game since coming to CU.
Pierce finished with six solos and six assists for a season-high 12 tackles as Kansas State beat No. 11 USC 27-20 on national television. He also finished with a sack for 6 yards and two tackles for loss for a total of nine yards. The Wildcats held Southern California's potent offense to just 296 net yards, including 90 yards rushing. Senior QB Carson Palmer finished with only 18 completions in 46 attempts. Pierce also is currently second on the Wildcats' tackle chart with 36 tackles and leads the team with 23 solo stops. He is also tied for the lead in sacks with two as KSU is ranked second nationally in scoring and ninth in total defense.
Warren had 12 total tackles, nine unassisted and three assists, as the Aggies lost a hard-fought 13-3 decision to No. 5-ranked Virginia Tech. He also notched four tackles for losses of 11 yards, had a quarterback sack for loss of three yards, made five third-down stops, and blocked a field goal. His efforts limited VT's high-yardage running back duo of Kevin Jones and Lee Suggs to a combined 99 yards on 28 carries while "The Wrecking Crew" defense held Virginia Tech to 248 yards of total offense.
Miller ran back his second punt for a touchdown this season with a 45-yard jaunt in a 42-12 home win over Troy State. He ended the game with five returns for 60 yards and became the first Cyclones' player to have two TD on punt returns since James (The Eel) McMillion had three in 1992.
